
Motivation is any stimulus that arouses the student’s interests. Yes, motivation is really need in the classroom, the teacher must equipped such ability to motivate learners. It is such a waste if a teacher will just discuss the lesson without the presence of motivation and as result the learners might not be motivated listening in the discussion and so no learning will exist in the learner.
Moreover, learners have different characteristics that could really influence one’s learning. No matter how effectual your motivation is but if one of your students has different character from your other students basically that learner could not cope up with your motivation. Perhaps, he or she might have distinct attitude within her. Definitely, emotional influences deactivated her interest in learning. Therefore, different strategies of
motivation must employ inside the classroom to catch up the attention and to activate his or her interest in learning. In that case, a goal must be provided first before doing such activity for you to identify the target that should be attained at the end of the schooling process.
Furthermore, there are two kinds of motivation, namely: extrinsic and intrinsic. The former is a kind of motivation that comes from the outside of the learner. For instance, a deal has been made between you and your father, the said deal is when you will get a good grade for the whole semester as a prize you will be receiving a brand new laptop. The latter is kind of motivation that comes from the inside of the learner. This simply imply that once that a learner have interest towards one subject he or she will exert more effort for his or her own good, that is to gain a good grade. Initiative has been develop from the learner.
In line with this, there are five principles of motivation. To sum up, first the learning environment must be conducive, this means that friendly and happy environment must prevail inside the classroom. Another, visual aids, book, and other leaning materials must be observe and use by teachers for the students to activate their curiousness towards the topic. Also, teachers must give compliment every time students would participate in the discussion. It was also that internal motivation is better that external motivation because internal motivation could enhance and improve more ones knowledge. Furthermore, the readiness of the learner must be observe, once the learner is ready he or she can cope easily the lesson. Lastly, the motivation can be enhance by instructional materials. This must be organized so that it will be meaningful in the part of the learners and teacher as well. There’s also theories of motivation that was popularized by Maslow known as Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. Firstly, is the psychological needs which directly pertains to the basic needs food, shelter, clothing, and etc. Secondly, safety needs, Followed by love and belongingness needs, then esteem needs, and lastly, need for self actualization. This theory states the factors that basically could affect ones learning.
Self concept refers to the cognitive or thinking aspect of self, a complex, organized, and dynamic system of learned beliefs, attitudes, and opinions that holds to be true about his or her personal existence. This term pertains to the learners’ point of view or philosophy in life. How he or she foresee himself or herself in the environment he or she belongs. Self efficacy refers to how people think, feel, motivate, and behave. These characteristics of them affect the various events in their life where different kind of experiences will come out from those dispositions.
